Strategy of computed tomography image optimization in cervical vertebra and neck soft tissue in emergency patients
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: Due to the use of ionizing radiation in the CT scan, optimal parameters should be used to reduce the risk of cancer in patients who are constantly exposed to X-rays. The aim of this study was to optimize the parameters used in CT scan of cervical vertebrae and neck soft tissue with minimal loss of image quality Materials and Methods: In this study, the patients were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of patients scanned with Default parameters and the second group scanned with new parameters. The findings included cervical vertebra and soft tissue protocols. The ImpactDose program was used to estimate the organs doses. All the images shown good diagnostic quality and the doses of organs around them were significantly decreased Results: Good agreement was found between the new images and the default parameters. There was no significant quality reduction in the optimized images. The decrease in radiation dose in soft tissue protocol is: kV16.66%, mA31.25%, pitch24.13, rotation time33.3%, and in the cervical vertebra is: kV16.66%, mA64.28%, pitch48.27%. Decrease of these parameters reduced CTDIw 80.97%, CTDIvol90% and DLP90.21% in the cervical vertebra protocol, as well as CTDIw75.47%, CTDIvol81.34% and DLP81.36% in the soft tissue protocol Conclusion: The results obtained in this study can be used in neck CT scan protocols in soft tissue and cervical vertebra windows. Due to reduction in the dose of the target area and the organs surrounding, these protocols could be used to reduce the risk of cancer and emergency patients

Correlation Between Tissue Densities in Computed Tomography and Three Different Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Units (In Vitro)
Background and Aim: Bone density is of great assistance in the selection of the proper implant site. The present study aimed to assess the correlation between tissue densities in computed tomography (CT) and three different cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) units. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, a radiographic phantom consisting of a transparent polymethyl methacrylate (PM...
full textImage Optimization in Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography by Hardware Modifications with Monte Carlo Simulation
Introduction: In Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT), the projection data used for image reconstruction are distorted by several factors, including attenuation and scattering of gamma rays, collimator structure, data acquisition method, organ motion, and washout of radiopharmaceuticals. All these make reconstruction of a quantitative SPECT image very difficult. Simulation of a SP...
full textOptimization of Radiation Dose in Cranial Computed Tomography among Adults: Assessment of Radiation Dose against Image Quality
Introduction: The rapid use of computed tomography (CT) scan is of great concern, due to increase in patients’ dose. Optimization of CT protocol is a vital issue in dose reduction. This study aimed to optimize radiation dose in cranial CT and assess modifications in image quality under radiation dose reduction. Material and Methods: A poly(me...

Osteomyelitis of the vertebral body is a rare condition, and its prognostic is reserved in several species, caus- ing spinal cord involvement, and neurological manifestations. In foals, the disease can be resulted from an infection caused by several bacteria, in which R. equi has a higher incidence among the responsible agents. The objective of this report is to describe the osteomyelitis occur...
full textdevelopment and implementation of an optimized control strategy for induction machine in an electric vehicle
in the area of automotive engineering there is a tendency to more electrification of power train. in this work control of an induction machine for the application of electric vehicle is investigated. through the changing operating point of the machine, adapting the rotor magnetization current seems to be useful to increase the machines efficiency. in the literature there are many approaches wh...
15 صفحه اولcomparison of tissue density in hounsfield units in computed tomography and cone beam computed tomography
objectives: bone quality and quantity assessment is one of the most important steps in implant treatment planning. different methods such as computed tomography (ct) and recently suggested cone beam computed tomography (cbct) with lower radiation dose and less time and cost are used for bone density assessment. this in vitro study aimed to compare the tissue density values in hounsfield units (...
